Establishing a Positive Attitude Towards Oral Health
From the day their first tooth appears, it's important for Vancouver's kids to receive the oral health care they need. Early, regular dental care can help ensure that your child's teeth stay healthy as they grow.
When should my child visit the dentist?
As soon as your child's first tooth erupts you should bring them in for their first examination. The earlier your child begins visiting the dentist, the easier the process will be going forward.
An early initial visit helps your dentist to diagnose, monitor and/or treat, any developing issues before they become more serious.
Kids (like adults) should continue to have twice yearly examinations and hygiene cleanings to help keep their smiles healthy. Each patient is unique, and some children may require more frequent appointments than others.
Dental Care Services for Children
When it comes to establishing and maintaining optimal oral health as your child grows, regular professional cleanings and examinations starting from an early age are essential.
At Cambie Village Dental, our team provides the following services to support your child's dental health:
- Specialized advice for children's dental hygiene routines
- Regular cleanings and examinations
- Fluoride treatments
- Protective sealants
Each of these elements work together to form the foundation of good dental health beginning in childhood and continuing throughout adulthood.
Oral Hygiene & Prevention for Kids
The moment your child's teeth break through the gums, they are susceptible to tooth decay. Preventing tooth decay and cavities is often our focus for our younger patients.
Early Years Brushing & Flossing
Just like adult teeth, baby teeth need to be brushed twice daily. Begin brushing your child's baby teeth as soon as they begin to come in.
Do not use toothpaste when brushing your child's teeth if they are under 3 years of age. Simply use a soft bristled baby's toothbrush and fresh water to clean your infant's teeth.
You should also begin flossing your child's primary teeth once a day as soon as they have two side-by-side teeth.
